2017 North Texas March for Life

By Ivie Woodharbor It was a cool afternoon on January 14, in the year of Our Lord 2017.  Thousands of individuals had gathered to march for the protection of the unborn children in Dallas, Texas.  Several members from Troops of Saint George Troop 31, Troop 5  and Troop 1 stood among the marchers for the North Texas March for Life.  The cadets and the whole of the pro-life group marched from the Dallas City Hall to the parking lot in front of Earle Cabell Federal Courthouse.  There the prolife speakers rallied and spoke up for the unborn’s protection in the womb.  The Troops of Saint George led the returning march back to the Dallas City Hall to finish off the march. Please join these TSG cadets and many others like them next year in 2018 to speak up for the unborn children who have no voice. Photography by Sissel Anderson

Troops 1 and 31 Salute Our Nation’s Veterans

Veteran’s Day 2016 Irving, Texas –  Porter’s Army and Navy in Irving, Texas since 1946, hosted their yearly Veteran’s Day benefit on Saturday, November 12th. Steve Porter and his wife Cindy helped the veterans out by giving the public a chance to fill care boxes with donated items to send all over the world to US servicemen and women. There was musical acts on the stage in the morning and a big band playing favorites in the afternoon. Troop 1 Capt. Eric Gruchet,  along with members from both Troops of Saint George Troop 1 and 31, presented a special award to Steve Porter for all of his effort and help over the past few years supporting the Troops of Saint George. There were also many booths set up next to Porter’s representing the likes of Lowes, Home Depot, Irving Police, US Army, Troops of Saint George and many others. Troops of Saint George Troop 1 and Troop 31 manned a booth, helping the public to create mini care packages to be put in the larger care packages for the soldiers. People could come by and pack the little TSG PVC tube  with sunflower seeds, toothbrush, toothpaste, gum, Instant Towel, Jolly Rogers, etc., as well as hand….

Troop 31’s 2016 Dragon Slayers

This past May saw two junior cadets, three senior cadets, and two dads earn the Saint George Dragon Slayer rank for the Troops of Saint George Troop 31.   The Dragon Slayer rank is earned when a cadet reaches the age of 11 and or when a son enters the Troops of Saint George as a senior cadet and achieves all of the Dragon Slayer requirements.   The boys spent the past 10-12 months working on the requirements for this rank by learning and achieving the following: TSG Basics, Spiritual, Physical, Patriotic, Manly Skills and finally a pilgrimage.  This rank is also open and encouraged for fathers to attain with their sons or on their own.  Both dads this year worked with their sons on helping achieve all the requirements for the Dragon Slayer .  This is the first time that dads have earned the rank patch for TSG Troop 31.  Overall now Troop 31 has 12 that have achieved the Saint George Dragon Slayer rank, with more working on it this year.  As to the pilgrimages, and a couple of pictures below, some of the boys went to the Basilica in Saint Paul, Minnesota National Shrine, while others went to the life size Stations of the Cross in Groom, Texas…..

Troop 1 Blessed with a Day of Service at the Benedictine Monastery of Thien Tam

The Men and Boys of Troop 1 were blessed with a day of service for our Catholic Church during the recent Blessed Sacrament Day VII held June 2nd – 5th at the Benedictine Monastery of Thien Tam in Kerens, Texas. The weekend was a success in growing closer to Christ through daily Mass, Adoration, Stations of the Cross, two Pontifical Masses to celebrate Vietnamese Martyrs and Corpus Christi with a procession and many speakers sharing the joy and love of Christ. Troop 1 was able to support the overall success through helping in the kitchen, dining area and bathrooms through helping restock supplies, cleaning the floors, trash pickup and much more. After quite a bit of rain in Texas and a wonderfully large gathering, it was no easy task, but the men and boys of Troop 1 were up to the challenge! The gathering of the faithful were extremely appreciative of the Troop’s support and showered them with praise and plenty of great food. Troop 1 is already marking their calendars for the Blessed Sacrament Day VIII in 2017!

Listen to Dave Palmer Interview Brian on Guadalupe Radio

I was blessed with the opportunity to share my story with Dave Palmer on Guadalupe Radio Network’s Interview of the Week program. We spend some time on my journey and reversion to the Catholic Faith over the last four years that starts with joining the Troops of Saint George as a way to connect with my eldest. While the interview ends with a discussion of how the Troops of Saint George and the Holy Spirit have led me to other Catholic men on fire, the journey toward Christ is far from over. We thank Dave and Diane for allowing me to share a brief snippet of my story, as well as allowing my wife Lisa and I to record PSA’s on behalf of the Troops of Saint George to continue to spread the word. We are so blessed for all Dave and the GRN crew do to provide great Catholic Radio programming throughout North Texas and the United States. Please take a listen to the interview below!

We would like to congratulate our 1st Dragon Slayers. We’ve been going since the beginning of the organization and this year has been a big year with several milestones, one of which is our 1st ranking ceremony. We started the day with Mass and a special blessing by our chaplain Fr. Augustine Puchner from St. John the Baptist in Costa Mesa, CA. Then the ranking boys and dad’s went to Mission San Juan Capistrano for our pilgrimage. We ended up with a family picnic and badge ceremony. God bless the Troops of Saint George

Troops of Saint George march in 2016 North Texas March for Life

Saturday January 16, 2016 saw cloudy weather and light rain sprinkles in Downtown Dallas.  Even with the dreary weather an estimated seven thousand people came out to march for the rights of the un-born, the innumerable babies killed by abortions since the Roe vs. Wade decision.  After Mass in the Dallas Convention Center, the marchers gathered outside and started the annual march towards the Crowley Courts Building in Downtown Dallas where the court decision was handed down in 1973.  The Troops of Saint George were again in attendance for the annual March For Life.  Troop 77  marched near the head of the column led by their Capt. Bill Rowe with 20+ troop members in attendance.   Halfway back Troop 31 marched, led by Capt. O’Flaherty and 10 other members of the troop behind the banner of Troop 31 and many of the troops flags.   Right behind Troop 31, members of Troop 5 marched along with their troop banner.  There were also  members of Troop 1 marching along with the large Mater Dei Church group.  All the TSG troop members marched under the banner of the Troops of Saint George, standing up for the helpless and practicing the honor call of….

Troops of Saint George, A Needed Apostolate for the New Evangelization

Troops of Saint George, A Needed Apostolate for the New Evangelization

Several Popes have now called for the New Evangelization because of what Pope Saint John Paul II called “invasive secularism” in the Church. The Church is being changed by the world rather than changing it. As a result, the Church and the world are not experiencing the human flourishing that following Jesus and the teachings of his Church lead to. And, the Church is failing in its mission to lead people to Christ… The data is clear, self-identifying Catholics are no different than the ambient western culture in America. “Catholics” are sacramentalized, but not evangelized. They contracept, abort, cohabitate, and fornicate at the same levels as non-Catholics. They vote for pro-death politicians, support so-called same-sex marriage, euthanasia and other elements of the culture of death at the same rates as non-Catholics. There is no differentiation until the data is cut for those Catholics who attend Mass weekly. There is an even greater distinction when the data is surveyed for those Catholics who attend daily Mass, attend retreats, and otherwise show some evidence that they are intentional disciples of Christ. Following the lead of the Popes, many in the Catholic world are calling for new Catholic subcultures, distinct communities that live….
